Postpartum: Maverick

(Just a reminder, some of this is copy and pasted. Any additions I make today are in bold.)

After having Maverick, I knew my recovery needed to be very intentional as we would soon be moving back to Idaho. The first week was hard. I was really weepy and full of anxiety. I was also in so much pain from my milk coming in and every time I would nurse, I would contract and that was crazy. I hadn't had that with my other pregnancies.

The second week got a little better. My mother was great and I honestly stayed in bed for a week (This is why I believe all women need a postpartum doula to help keep mom rested, fed, hydrated and focused on healing/nursing. I still got up and moved so my circulation would keep moving but I rested a lot). I really needed that and feel that I've bonded really well with Maverick. I think some people thought I was a little stingy or selfish for not letting people come and visit but I really needed that resting time (I asked for no visitors for two weeks. Knowing myself, I didn’t want to play hostess. I wanted to bond with my baby and heal). We had SO much going on that summer I really wanted to make sure that I took the time to rest and recoup.

Something that was difficult was going to the birthing center so soon after birth (it was either the day after or maybe 2). That’s the benefit of the hospital I guess. But still worth it to be to have had a birthing center birth. Low intervention during labor and postpartum was wonderful.
